What is BS EN IEC 61340-4-5 - Methods for characterizing the electrostatic protection of footwear and flooring in combination with a person about?
BS EN IEC 61340-4-5 specifies test methods for evaluating electrostatic protection provided by a system of footwear and flooring in combination with a person.
Note1: Test results are valid only for the specific footwear and flooring combination tested.
Note2: The test methods are not intended for individual product qualification purposes.
Who is BS EN IEC 61340-4-5 Methods for characterizing the electrostatic protection of footwear and flooring in combination with a person for?
BS EN IEC 61340-4-5 on electrostatic protection of footwear is useful for:
- Electrostatic protection of footwear manufacturers
- Flooring manufacturers
- Quality control authorities
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61340-4-5 - Methods for characterizing the electrostatic protection of footwear and flooring in combination with a person?
Footwear and flooring work together as a system to ground the person wearing the footwear. For grounding to work, you need a continuous connection between the body and the ground.
BS EN IEC 61340-4-5 provides methods for characterization of a system that would be achieved by measuring electrical resistance and chargeability of the footwear and flooring in combination with a person. This will ensure that electrostatic protection footwear minimizes the amount of static electricity built up in your body. BS EN IEC 61340-4-5 will protect the users of electrostatic protection footwear from those working environment that has build-up of static electricity.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 61340-4-5:2018 cancels and replaces BS EN 61340-4-5:2004.
The significant technical changes are as follow:
- Normative references have been updated
- Figure 2 has been improved and expanded to include actual examples of body voltage recordings, and text has been added to explain how to interpret recordings
- An alternative walking pattern has been added in an informative annex
