What is BS EN IEC 61439-7 about ?
BS EN IEC 61439-7 is a multi-part series of European standard which discusses about the assemblies of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear.
BS EN IEC 61439-7 applies to all assemblies whether they are designed, manufactured and verified on a one-off basis or fully standardized and manufactured in quantity.
Note 1: BS EN IEC 61439-7 does not apply to individual devices and self-contained components such as circuit breakers, fuse switches, electronic equipment, which comply with their relevant product standards.
Note 2: BS EN IEC 61439-7 does not apply to boxes and enclosures for electrical accessories for household and similar fixed electrical installations.
Who is BS EN IEC 61439-7 for ?
BS EN IEC 61439-7 on assemblies of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear is applicable to:
- Manufacturing of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear
- Retailers and suppliers of switchgear and controlgear
- Companies dealing with switchgear and controlgear
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61439-7 ?
Low-voltage switchgear is a three-phase power distribution which is designed for safety, efficiently and reliable supply of electric power at voltage up to 1000 volts. Controlgear is a term for switches, fuse and circuit breakers which is used to control, protect and isolate the electrical equipment.
Following the guidance provided by BS EN IEC 61439-7 enables you to ensure protection against mechanical impact, electrical shocks when using Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies.
BS EN IEC 61439-7 gives general rules and common safety requirements for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies. BS EN IEC 61439-7 provides you the essential constructional, performance and test requirements to enable the design, evaluation and safe operation of low voltage switchgear assemblies for marinas and harbors site (AMHS), camping and caravan sites (ACCS), for markets and other outdoor public site (AMPS), for electric vehicles charging stations (AMPS).
As a user of BS EN IEC 61439-7, you will be able to establish a safe and reliable electric supply system in commercial or industrial facilities of varied sizes. In the event of a short-circuit or failure of the power system, efficient low-voltage switchgear and controlgears will help eliminate damage to the equipment and prevent disruption to the end-user.
What’s changed since the last update ?
BS EN IEC 61439-7:2020 supersedes BS EN IEC 61439-7:2018, which is withdrawn. It includes
- A new classification of the stationary assemblies in accordance with their mechanical resistance (5.702)
- A new Table 702 with the list of tests and relevant severities to which the assemblies have to be subjected according to the classification mentioned at point a)
- A new Annex (CC) with a new endurance test for the individual switching devices intended to be used in AEVSC, if they have not already been tested against this requirement
- A general editorial review and a technical revision
