What is BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 about?
BS EN IEC 61757 is a series on fibre optic sensors. A fibre-optic sensor is a sensor that uses fibre either as the sensing element ("intrinsic sensors") or as a means of relaying signals from a remote sensor to the electronics that process the signals ("extrinsic sensors"). BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 specifies fibre Bragg gratings (FBG) tilt sensor that can be made of various materials and with various forms as a segment of optical fibre with one or more fibre Bragg gratings sensors (in the following denoted Bragg grating fibre).
BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 defines the terminology, structure, characteristics and their measurement methods including the procedures, for an optical tilt sensor based on fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) as the sensitive element.
The fibre Bragg gratings tilt sensor is capable of measuring both absolute and relative tilt, but it is more suitable for tilt monitoring using relative tilt changes. The reference axis for absolute tilt measurements is the vertical axis.
Who is BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 for?
BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 on fibre optic fibre Bragg gratings tilt sensors is useful for:
- Manufacturers of telecommunication equipment and components
- Design engineer
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1?
The function of Fibre optic sensors is to measure strain, temperature, pressure, and vibrations by modifying a fibre. BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 provides you with the framework for specifying fibre optic FBG tilt sensors, and their specific components and subassemblies and guides you about tests to determine the temperature and humidity range for the installation, operation, storage and transport of fibre Bragg gratings tilt sensors, that temperature and humidity limits should not be exceeded to ensure safe operation.
BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 specifies the configuration of the fibre Bragg gratings tilt sensors that would be reported by the manufacturers and offers recommendations for use of fibre Bragg gratings measuring instruments. BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 offers you unique wavelength multiplexing capability for installation of the optical data bus network, it is inexpensive, and it exhibits linear response in the measurement of strain, pressure and temperature. Using BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 you can define the terminology, structure, characteristics and measurement methods including the procedures, for fibre Bragg gratings sensor.
