What is BS EN IEC 61853-3 about?
BS EN IEC 61853-3 is the third part of the multi series European standard that describes the calculation of PV module energy rating values.
The purpose of BS EN IEC 61853-3 is to define a methodology to determine the PV module energy output (watt-hours), and the climatic specific energy rating (dimensionless) for a complete year at maximum power operation for the reference climatic profile(s) given in IEC 61853-4.
BS EN IEC 61853-3 is applied to determine a specific module output in a standard reference climatic profile for the purposes of comparison of rated modules.
The methodology does not take into account either progressive degradation or transient behaviour such as light induced changes and/or thermal annealing.
BS EN IEC 61853-3 applies to mono-facial modules.
Who is BS EN IEC 61853-3 for?
BS EN IEC 61853-3 on PV module is useful for:
- Electronics and Electrical engineers
- Testing houses/ service/certification providers for PV module
- Researchers and scientists
- Testers and any entity responsible for rating PV module
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61853-3?
A photovoltaic system, also a PV system or solar power system, is an electric power system designed to supply usable solar power using photovoltaics.
BS EN 61853-3 specifies system documentation requirements, detailing what information requires to be included within the documentation and procedures for energy rating of PV modules.
As BS EN 61853-3 specifies, module temperature is based on tabulated information such as irradiance, ambient temperature, and wind speed.
Overall, BS EN IEC 61853-3 guides users to use a structured methodology and a systems approach of documentation performance testing and energy rating for PV modules, thereby accelerating the uptake of new energy-saving technologies. Utilizing these procedures and methods can lead to greater energy efficiency.
