What is BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 - Functional safety of machinery safety-related control systems about?
Dealing with systematic risk reduction, BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 is about how to implement safety-related control systems on machinery from the concept phase through to decommissioning.
Who is BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 - Functional safety of machinery safety-related control systems for?
This standard can benefit:
-
machinery designers;
-
control system manufacturers and integrators; and
-
anyone involved in the specification, design and validation process of a Safety-related Control System (SCS).
What does BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 - Functional safety of machinery safety-related control systems cover?
BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 specifies requirements and makes recommendations for the design, integration, and validation of safety-related control systems (SCS) for machines. It applies to control systems used, either singly or in combination, to carry out safety functions on machines that are not portable by hand while working, including a group of machines working together in a co-ordinated manner.
NOTE: BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 is concerned only with functional safety requirements intended to reduce the risk of hazardous situations; and is restricted to risks arising directly from the hazards of the machine itself or from a group of machines working together in a co-ordinated manner.
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 - Functional safety of machinery safety-related control systems?
-
BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 can increase the safety of machinery, benefitting operators and the businesses they work for.
-
It can lead to fewer incidents and less down time, so contributes to enhanced productivity.
-
Adoption of BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 is a way to demonstrate your organization's commitment to continually increasing working condition safety.
What has changed?
BS EN IEC 62061:2021+A1:2024 provides a number of general editorial updates to BS IEC 62061:2021, including:
- updated references;
- an updated Figure covering the ‘Correlation of subsystem C and the pertinent fault handling function';
- 'moving cart' is replaced by 'moving part or final element';
- 'subsystem' is replaced by 'Basic subsystem architecture' throughout;
- several new/updated equations are introduced throughout.
A further Amendment 2 is currently being worked on and will be published later in 2024/early 2025.
