What is BS EN IEC 62148‑6 about?
BS EN IEC 62148 is a series on the active components and devices of fibre optics. BS EN IEC 62148‑6 covers the physical interface specification of optical transceivers for synchronous transfer mode-passive optical network (ATM-PON) systems recommended by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as ITU Recommendation G.983.1.
BS EN IEC 62148‑6 gives the interface standards of optical transceiver modules for ATM-PON systems, specifies the interface of a type 3 module with LD driver circuits and clock and data recovery (CDR) ICs for ONU module.
The intent of BS EN IEC 62148‑6 is to adequately specify the physical requirements of an optical transceiver that will enable mechanical interchangeability of transceivers to BS EN IEC 62148‑6 both at the printed circuit board and for any panel mounting requirement.
Who is BS EN IEC 62148‑6 for?
BS EN IEC 62148‑6 on fibre optic active components and devices is useful for:
- Manufacturers of fibre optic devices and components
- Design engineers
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62148‑6?
Fibre optic transceivers are used to convert electrical signals into optical signals and vice versa. BS EN IEC 62148‑6 discusses the physical interface for transceivers for ATM-PON systems. This transceiver is designed as a 24-pin package for use through holes on the printed circuit board.
ATM-PON is a system that combines multimedia multiple speed multiplexing technologies and ATM technology, that has superior quality control functionality, with PON technology, that is expected to become more economical as optical access networks are shared. Using BS EN IEC 62148‑6 guidelines, you can understand the physical interface specification of optical transceivers for synchronous transfer mode-passive optical network (ATM-PON) systems.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 62148‑6:2020 supersedes BS EN 62148‑6:2003. BS EN IEC 62148‑6:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 62148‑6:2003. These include:
- Inconsistency of types in Clause 4 has been resolved
