What is BS EN IEC 62246-1-1‒ Reed switches about?
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 is the first part of an international multi-series standard that covers general specifications for good quality reed switches.
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 is a blank detail specification that defines requirements and tests for reed switches for use in general and industrial applications.
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 is intended to be used in conjunction with IEC 62246-1:2015 and specific products standards applying as switching elements.
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 selects the appropriate test procedures to be used in detail specifications derived from this specification from various other sources.
Note 1: Reed switch types are specified depending on characteristic values including functional ratings for safety and tests.
Note 2: Mercury wetted reed switches are not covered by BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 due to their possible environmental impact
Who is BS EN IEC 62246-1-1‒ Reed switches for?
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 on reed switches is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of reed switches
- Dealers and distributors of reed switches
- Designers and developers of reed switches
- Test/ service providers for reed switches
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62246-1-1‒ Reed switches?
A reed switch is a switch operated electrically by an applied magnetic field, which makes it an electromagnetic switch that controls the electric current flow in a circuit.
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 provides you with general requirements that help you with the design and construction of the reed switches according to global standards.
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 specifies blank detail and helps you select the detailed specifications including safety contact ratings and test procedures for reed switches. It serves the enhanced requirements, to verify the quality assessment for the reliable and efficient reed switches.
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1 describes sampling and test schedules for qualification approval procedures, quality conformance inspection, formation of inspection lots, and intervals between tests, which guides its users to construct and manufacture best class reed switches.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 62246-1-1:2018 supersedes BS EN 62246-1-1:2013, which is withdrawn. BS EN IEC 62246-1-1:2018 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous editions:
- Update of the scope, references and terms and definitions
- Inclusion of guidelines for the preparation of blank detail and detail specifications
- Update of characteristics values including functional ratings for safety
