What is BS EN IEC 62271-106 about?
BS EN IEC 62271-106 discusses standards for switchgear and controlgear. BS EN IEC 62271-106 applies to AC contactors and/or contactor-based controllers and motor starters designed for indoor installation and operation at frequencies up to and including 60 Hz on systems having voltages above 1 kV and up to and including 24 kV.
BS EN IEC 62271-106 applies only to three-pole devices for use in three-phase systems, and single-pole devices for use in single-phase systems. It includes additional requirements for outdoor installations where the equipment is housed in an additional protective enclosure.
BS EN IEC 62271-106 gives requirements for starters associated with separate short-circuit protective devices and controllers, contactors combined with short-circuit protective devices (SCPD).
Note 1: BS EN IEC 62271-106 applies to the operating devices of contractors and to their auxiliary equipment
Note 2: BS EN IEC 62271-106 includes- direct on-line starters, reversing starters, two direction starters, Reduced k V A (voltage) starters incudes- auto-transformers starters, rheostatic starters, reactor starters
Note 3: BS EN IEC 62271-106 does not apply to circuit-breaker-based motor-starters, liquid starters and those of the “liquid-vapour”
Note 4: BS EN IEC 62271-106 does not apply to semiconductor contactors and starters making use of semiconductor contactors in the main circuit
Note 5: BS EN IEC 62271-106 does not apply to equipment designed not only for starting, but also for adjustment of speed
Note 6: BS EN IEC 62271-106 does not apply to unbalanced rheostatic rotor starters, i.e., where the resistances do not have the same value in all phases
Note 7: Contactors intended for closing and opening electric circuits and, if combined with suitable relays, for protecting these circuits against operating overloads are covered in BS EN IEC 62271-106.
Who is BS EN IEC 62271-106 for?
BS EN IEC 62271-106 on AC contactors, contractor-based controllers and motor-starters is applicable for:
- Manufactures of switchgear and control gears
- Electrical design engineers
- Companies dealing with setting up electrical power systems
- Test houses
- Stockists
- Suppliers and dealers of AC contactor, controllers and motor-starters
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62271-106?
Motor stater is an electrical device which is use for starting and stopping a motor and also provides a low voltage and overcurrent protection. A contractor is an electrical control switch which is used for making or breaking the connection between power supplier and the loader.
BS EN IEC 62271-106 helps you with technical requirements of AC contactors, contractor-based controllers and motor-starters, covering measures for protecting and regulating equipment. This helps you ensure your switch gears and control gears are compliant with the standard protocols.
BS EN IEC 62271-106 ensures you the quality and safety of the components and efficiency of the product by testing and verifying the characteristics necessary for AC contactors, contractor-based controllers and motor-starters.
The hazardous effects from excessive currents can also be mitigated with well-functioning switchgear. Overall, adopting the global safety standards defined in BS EN IEC 62271-106, can instil credibility and acceptance for your business.
