What is BS EN IEC 62271‑214 on Internal arc classification about?
BS EN IEC 62271‑214 is an international standard that focuses on high-voltage switchgear and control gear.
BS EN IEC 62271‑214 specifies requirements for internal arc classification of metal-enclosed pole-mounted switchgear installations used for alternating current with rated voltages above 1 kV and up to and including 52 kV with service frequencies up to and including 60 Hz.
BS EN IEC 62271‑214 is applicable to three-phase, two-phase, and single-phase equipment. Enclosures may include fixed and removable components and may be filled with fluid (liquid or gas) to provide insulation. For the use of this document, high-voltage is the rated voltage above 1000 V.
Note: BS EN IEC 62271‑214 does not preclude that other equipment may be included in the same enclosure. In such a case, any possible influence of that equipment on the switchgear and control gear is to be taken into account.
Who is BS EN IEC 62271‑214 on Internal arc classification for?
BS EN IEC 62271‑214 on internal arc classification is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of pole-mounted switchgear and control gear
- Dealers and distributors of metal-enclosed pole-mounted switchgear and control gear
- Designers of metal-enclosed pole-mounted switchgear and control gear
- Services/test providers for metal-enclosed pole-mounted switchgear and control gear
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62271‑214 on Internal arc classification?
The internal arc faults always take place within the switchgear. The capacity of any switchgear to bear the arc fault can be estimated by the internal arc resistance of the switchgear.
BS EN IEC 62271‑214 gives you technical specifications like design, construction, ratings, etc which helps you for rated internal arc classification of pole-mounted switchgear and control gear according to the international standards. It helps you to design and manufacture pole-mounted switchgear and control gear to prevent the occurrence of internal arc faults.
The users of BS EN IEC 62271‑214 could also get guidelines for the preventive measures and the test methods that ensure the safety of the pole-mounted switchgear. It also confirms the durability, high efficiency, and reliability helping you in standardization of the high voltage switchgear and control gear products, that are acceptable worldwide.
