What is BS EN IEC 62386-221 – Digital addressable lighting about?
BS EN IEC 62386-221 is a European standard that discusses the particular requirements for control gear of demand response.
BS EN IEC 62386-221 specifies the methodology of demand response which focuses on the curtailment of electric loads during peak demand times thus avoiding the requirement to find new sources of generation capacity. By using load shedding, the lighting system responds to the demands of the energy supply.
NOTE: BS EN IEC 62386-221 is applicable to control gear supporting the demand response functionality.
Who is BS EN IEC 62386-221 – Digital addressable lighting for?
BS EN IEC 62386-221 on Control gear of Demand response applies to:
- Manufacturer of electronic control gear
- Manufacturers of control gear
- Quality check personnel
- Electronic engineer
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62386-221 – Digital addressable lighting?
Digital Addressable Lighting Interface is a dedicated protocol for digital lighting control that enables the easy installation of robust, scalable and flexible lighting networks. Demand response (DR) is defined as a measure for reducing energy load in response to supply constraints, generally during periods of peak demand.
BS EN IEC 62386-221 provides you with load shedding which is a temporary reduction of light output to reduce mains power consumption.
BS EN IEC 62386-221 provides you with the facility of emergency operation where emergency lighting and load shedding functionality are integrated with the same bus unit, the emergency operation always take precedence over the load shedding functionality.
BS EN IEC 62386-221 provides you with comprehensive information useful for control gear for demand response. With obedience and compliance to BS EN IEC 62386-221, you can achieve precision in terms of product functionality.
