What is BS EN IEC 62485‑1‒ Safety requirements for secondary batteries about?
BS EN IEC 62485‑1 is the first part of an international multi-series standard that covers general specifications for secondary batteries and battery installations.
BS EN IEC 62485‑1 specifies the basic requirements for secondary batteries and battery installations. The requirements and definitions are specified for lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries. For other battery systems with aqueous electrolytes, the requirements may be applied accordingly.
BS EN IEC 62485‑1 covers safety aspects taking into account hazards associated with:
- Electricity (installation, charging, discharging, etc.)
- Electrolyte
- Inflammable gas mixtures
- Storage and transportation
BS EN IEC 62485‑1 gives specifications such as terms, definitions, general information, protection against electric shock, disconnection and separation, commissioning and putting batteries into operation, limit values and correction factors, provisions against explosion, and electrolyte hazards, etc. for secondary batteries and battery installations.
Who is BS EN IEC 62485‑1‒ Safety requirements for secondary batteries for?
BS EN IEC 62485‑1 on safety requirements for secondary batteries is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of secondary batteries
- Dealers and distributors of secondary batteries
- Designers and developers of secondary batteries
- Test/ service providers for secondary batteries
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62485‑1‒ Safety requirements for secondary batteries?
Secondary batteries are the cell or combination of cells, in which reversing the cell reactions is possible by charging from an external source. Nickel-cadmium (NiCd), lead-acid, and lithium-ion batteries are some examples of secondary batteries.
BS EN IEC 62485‑1 contains detailed specifications like commissioning and putting batteries into operation, limit values, and correction factors for secondary batteries, complying with the international standard. It gives you useful information and provisions to eliminate the risks while installing secondary batteries safely.
BS EN IEC 62485‑1 gives you the requirements determined by various applications which helps you to ensure the safety, reliability, life expectancy, mechanical strength, cycle stability, internal resistance, and battery temperature of the secondary batteries. It helps you with the selection of the battery design and technology that is relevant to the consumer’s requirements.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 62485‑1:2018 supersedes BS EN 50272‑1:2010, which is withdrawn.
