What is BS EN IEC 62485‑6 about?
BS EN IEC 62485‑6 is a part of the European standard that applies to battery installation used for electric off-road vehicles.
BS EN IEC 62485‑6 provides requirements on safety aspects associated with the installation, use, inspection, maintenance and disposal of lithium-ion batteries.
Main application fields include Industrial areas for cleaning machines, trucks for material handling, electrically pro pulsed platforms as well as other application electric-powered boats and ships.
Note 1: BS EN IEC 62485‑6 does not cover railway vehicles.
Note 2: BS EN IEC 62485‑6 does not cover batteries and battery installation for the propulsion of electric road vehicles.
Note 3: BS EN IEC 62485‑6 cover the safety aspects of battery installation.
Who is BS EN IEC 62485‑6 for?
BS EN IEC 62485‑6 on lithium-ion batteries in traction applications is applicable for:
- Manufactures of secondary batteries
- Service providing for secondary batteries and battery installation
- Companies dealing with batteries and batteries installing process
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62485‑6?
A cell or combination of cells in which the cells reactions are reversible is called as the storage battery, secondary battery or charge accumulator.
BS EN IEC 62485‑6 enables you to take precautions for the safe operation of lithium-ion batteries, secondary batteries and helps in making battery installation more cost-efficient over the long-term period.
BS EN IEC 62485‑6 guides you on the safety aspects such as prevention of short circuits and protection from other effects of electric current and gives provisions against hazards by chemicals while installing the battery, such as lithium-ion cells and batteries used in traction industrial application.
Following BS EN IEC 62485‑6, helps you fulfil the safety requirements, while manufacturing, or assembling secondary battery and battery installation in a standardized manner.
