What is BS EN IEC 62604‑2 - SAW and BAW duplexers of assessed quality about?
BS EN IEC 62604 is an international standard that discusses surface acoustic wave (SAW) and bulk acoustic wave (BAW) duplexers of assessed quality.
BS EN IEC 62604‑2 is the second part of the BS EN IEC 62604 series that concerns duplexers which can separate receiving signals from transmitting signals and are key components for two-way radio communications, and which are generally used in mobile phone systems compliant with CDMA systems such as N-CDMA in second-generation mobile telecommunication systems (2G), W-CDMA / UMTS (3G) or LTE (4G).
Note: It is neither the aim of these guidelines to explain a theory, nor to attempt to cover all the eventualities that may arise in practical circumstances.
Who is BS EN IEC 62604‑2 - SAW and BAW duplexers of assessed quality for?
BS EN IEC 62604‑2 on SAW and BAW duplexers is useful for:
- Manufacturer of piezoelectric devices
- Manufacturer of surface acoustic wave devices
- Manufacturer of bulk acoustic wave devices
- Manufacturer of electronic communication devices
- Telecommunication industry
- Quality testing personnel
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62604‑2 - SAW and BAW duplexers of assessed quality?
Duplexer characteristics are usually expressed in terms of centre frequency, pass bandwidth and insertion attenuation for each of transmitting and receiving filter parts in the duplexer and isolation level between the transmitter and receiver ports. Since the SAW and BAW duplexer is used in RF front-end of the user equipments, lower insertion attenuation, higher isolation/rejection level, stronger power durability and smaller/thinner package dimensions are strictly required.
In this regard, BS EN IEC 62604-2 guidelines highlight some of the more fundamental concerns that you can consider when ordering SAW and BAW duplexers for a new application. Such a procedure can be your insurance against unsatisfactory performance. Additionally, adopting best industry guidelines for use of SAW and BAW duplexers, can play a positive role in your quality management systems.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 62604‑2:2018 supersedes BS EN 62604‑2:2012, which is withdrawn. BS EN IEC 62604‑2:2018 includes the following technical changes with respect to BS EN 62604‑2:2012:
- Diplexers are described
- Duplexers with a balanced RX port are considered in the measurement method subclause (7.3)
