What is BS EN IEC 62613-1‒ High voltage shore connection systems about?
BS EN IEC 62613-1 is the first part of an international multi-series standard that covers specifications for high voltage shore connection systems (HVSC-Systems).
BS EN IEC 62613-1 applies to accessories with three phases (3 poles and Earth) with up to three pilot contacts and one single pole (Neutral).
These accessories have rated currents not exceeding 500 A and rated operating voltages not exceeding 12 kV 50/60 Hz.
BS EN IEC 62613-1 gives specifications like terms, definitions, standard ratings, classification, dimensions, protection against electric shock, provision for earthing, general construction requirements, mechanical strength, etc. for plugs, socket-outlets, and ship couplers for high voltage shore connection systems (HVSC-Systems).
Note 1: These accessories are intended to be connected to cables of copper or copper alloy only.
Note 2: Socket-outlets or ship inlets incorporated in or fixed to electrical equipment are within the scope of BS EN IEC 62613-1.
Who is BS EN IEC 62613-1‒ High voltage shore connection systems for?
BS EN IEC 62613-1 on high voltage shore connection systems is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of Plugs, socket-outlets, and ship couplers
- Dealers and distributors of Plugs, socket-outlets, and ship couplers
- Designers and developers of Plugs, socket-outlets, and ship couplers
- Test/ service providers for Plugs, socket-outlets, and ship couplers
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62613-1‒ High voltage shore connection systems?
The ships utilize electric power as a form of energy. For serving this purpose, a high-voltage shore connection (HVSC) is used to connect ships to the main grid.
BS EN IEC 62613-1 addresses the needs of the High Voltage Shore Connection Systems and accessories used in it, like plugs, socket outlets, ship connectors, and ship inlets, to deliver electrical power to ships in ports. It defines requirements that allow compliant ships to connect with the compliant high-voltage shore power supplies through a compatible shore-to-ship connection.
BS EN IEC 62613-1 specifies accessories that are useful for installation, assembling, wiring, commissioning, inspection, preventive maintenance, replacement of consumable parts, etc., as well as ability levels of the personnel to perform such operations. It gives the design and construction of accessories with reliable and safe performance to the user or surroundings. Accessories constructed in accordance with BS EN IEC 62613-1 can be considered suitable for the environmental conditions in the space where they are intended to operate.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 62613-1:2018 supersedes BS IEC 62613‑1:2011, which is withdrawn.
