What is BS EN IEC 62656‑8 about?
BS EN IEC 62656‑8 is part eight of a series of documents that specifies a web service interface to exchange data parcels conformant to IEC 62656-1, between a parcel server and a parcel client or between parcel servers.
This interface comprises of three basic services: a registration service, resolution service and subscription service.
Note: The following items are outside the scope of BS EN IEC 62656‑8:
- User identification and authorization
- Query language for a data parcel
- Transportation protocol
- Data and communication security techniques
Who is BS EN IEC 62656‑8 for?
BS EN IEC 62656‑8 on web service interface for data parcels is useful for:
- Data integration professionals
- Computer science engineers
- Software developers
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62656‑8?
For a description of products and services throughout their lifecycle, an enhanced data interoperability with reduced human interventions is an ultimate goal of developing international standards for intelligent production systems. An industrial ontology is expected to play a significant role in attaining this goal by allowing components of systems to talk to each other namely machine-machine understanding, about their functions, capabilities, structures and their configurations.
A semantic web service, like conventional web services, is the server end of a client-server system for machine-to-machine interaction via the World Wide Web. Semantic services are a component of the semantic web because they use markup which makes data machine-readable in a detailed and sophisticated way.
BS EN IEC 62656‑8 specifies a description of basic web services for semantic repositories based on the parcellized ontology model. Whereas an advanced type of web interface, including complex enquiry about products as well as query forwarding to another repository, is left to a future part of the series to be developed. This can be used in data integration, whereby data in various locations and various formats can be integrated into one seamless application, which will help you in increasing efficiency and saving time.
