What is BS EN IEC 62668‑2 – Counterfeit prevention in electronic components about?
BS EN IEC 62668 is a series of the international standard on process management for avionics that specifies the intellectual property (IP) which results in preventing counterfeit activities.
BS EN IEC 62668-2 is the second part of an international standard on process management for avionics which results in preventing counterfeit, fraudulent or recycling activities while purchasing the components from non-franchised sources.
BS EN IEC 62668‑2 defines requirements for avoiding the use of counterfeit, recycled and fraudulent components when these components are not purchased from the original component manufacturer (OCM) or are purchased from outside of franchised distributor networks for use in the aerospace, defence and high performance (ADHP) industries.
This practice is used, as derogation, only when there are no reasonable or practical alternatives.
Note: Typically, BS EN IEC 62668-2 is used in conjunction with IEC 62239-1 and IEC 62668-1, enabling ADHP industries to manage and avoid the use of counterfeit, recycled and fraudulent components in their supply chains.
Who is BS EN IEC 62668‑2 - Counterfeit prevention in electronic components for?
BS EN IEC 62668-2 on process management for avionics is useful for:
- Aerospace engineers
- Defence industries
- Metal industries
- Chemical industries
- Manufacturers of fuel pumps
- Distributors of fuel and oil
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62668‑2 - Counterfeit prevention in electronic components?
Counterfeit attempts in convincing the customers that they are buying a legitimate item or convince the consumers that they could deceive others with the imitation. This technique used by the sellers can cause harm or monetary loss to the consumers.
BS EN IEC 62668-2 specifies the responsibilities of the original equipment manufacturers (OEM), ensuring that the product does not contain counterfeit components. It also provides you with the guarantee of the equipment that includes the components which are purchased from non-franchised suppliers.
BS EN IEC 62668-2 is useful in analysing the alternative solution that helps in determining the technical and financial impacts for each program concerned that helps in identifying the difficulties behind souring the components.
BS EN IEC 62668‑2 navigates you through the technical requirements for purchasing the components and determining and specifying the risk and reasons behind outsourcing these components.
Overall, BS EN IEC 62668-2 best practice guidelines in preventing counterfeit, recycling and fraudulent activities by maintaining the intellectual property (IP) that can help you in purchasing traceable components from original equipment manufacturers (OCMs) or from non-franchised distributors.
As a result, BS EN IEC 62668-2 helps all stakeholders from industry and government to effectively carb entry of counterfeit parts into the aerospace supply chain and minimize their impact.
What’s changed since the last update?
