What is BS EN IEC 62688- Concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules and assemblies about?
BS EN IEC 62688 specifies the fundamental construction and testing requirements for Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) modules and assemblies in order to provide safe electrical and mechanical operation during their expected lifetime. Specific topics are provided to assess the prevention of electrical shock, fire hazards, and personal injury due to mechanical and environmental stresses.
BS EN IEC 62688 aids in defining the basic requirements for various application classes of concentrator photovoltaic modules and assemblies, but it cannot be considered to encompass all national and regional codes.
Who is BS EN IEC 62688- CPV modules and assemblies for?
BS EN IEC 62688 on CPV modules is relevant to:
- CPV module manufacturers
- CPV modules components manufacturers
- Photoelectric device manufacturers
- Solar energy engineering
- Quality testing and safety authorities
- Certification bodies
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62688- CPV modules and assemblies?
Concentrator photovoltaics is a photovoltaic technology that uses sunlight to generate electricity. Unlike traditional photovoltaic systems, it focuses sunlight through lenses or curved mirrors onto small, extremely efficient multi-junction (MJ) solar cells.
BS EN IEC 62688 helps you with the safety and performance evaluation of a CPV module and assemblies.
BS EN IEC 62688 covers guidance to prevent hazards and injury from high intensity light, field connections and hot surfaces.
BS EN IEC 62688 defines the minimum requirements for the design and construction of PV modules for protection against shock and energy hazards during installation, operation, and maintenance, under normal and single fault conditions, for the expected lifetime of the PV modules. Consideration is also given to minimizing hazards resulting from reasonably foreseeable misuse. The V-t test that is commonly used to predict the lifetime of the high-voltage cable may be used to predict the lifetime under the voltage stress.
Thus, compliance with BS EN IEC 62688 can minimize risks of electric shocks, fire and overall product failures due to misuse.
