What is BS EN IEC 62769-5 about?
BS EN IEC 62769-5 is the fifth part of a multi-series standard that deals with the solutions for the collection and proper management of the information in various sectors.
BS EN IEC 62769-5 gives you information on OPC UA, AddressSpace organization, device model for FDI, network and connectivity, utility functions, parameter types, FDI StatusCodes, parameter types, that defines the FDI Information model. The types in the Address Space of the FDI Server constitute a catalogue, which is built from FDI Packages. The FDI information model specifies extensions for a few special cases and otherwise explains how these types are used and how the contents are built from elements of device packages.
Who is BS EN IEC 62769-5 for?
BS EN IEC 62769-5 on FDI information model is applicable to:
- Companies shifting to service-oriented architecture
- Consultants working with software architecture
- Companies providing Field Device Integration services
- Field Device system suppliers
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62769-5?
One of the main tasks of the information model is to reflect the topology of the automation system. Therefore, it represents the devices of the automation system as well as the connecting communication networks including their properties, relationships, and the operations that can be performed on them.
BS EN IEC 62769-5 discusses the information model and guides elaborately on OPC UA, Address-Space organization, device model for FDI, network and connectivity, as well as utility functions, parameter types, FDI Status Codes, parameter types, specialized topology elements which mitigates the data mapping with OPC UA.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 62769-5:2021 supersedes BS EN IEC 62769-5:2015, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS EN IEC 62769-5:2021 include:
- Support for generic protocol extension for faster adoption of other technologies
- Support of new protocols
- Generic protocol extension to allow adoption of other communication protocols
- Based on generic protocol extension: Modbus RTU
