What is BS EN IEC 62858 - Lightning location systems (LLS) about?
BS EN IEC 62858 introduces and discusses all necessary measures to make reliable and homogeneous the values of ground flash density, NG and ground strike point density, NSG, obtained from lightning location systems (LLSs) in various countries. Only parameters that are relevant to risk assessment are considered.
Who is BS EN IEC 62858 - Lightning location systems (LLS) for?
BS EN IEC 62858 on lightning location systems (LLS) is useful for:
- Fulminologists
- Meteorological departments
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62858 - Lightning location systems (LLS)?
In many areas of the world data for risk evaluation is provided by lightning location systems (LLSs), but no common rule exists defining requirements either for their performance or for the elaboration of the measured data.
BS EN IEC 62858 describes four methods to verify the performance of LLSs in determining the lightning density: Network self-reference method, rocket triggered lightning and tall object studies, video camera studies, and inter-comparison among networks method.
The methods described in BS EN IEC 62858 provides you with vital data that can help you in evaluating the lightning risk to buildings and structures.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 62858:2019 and replaces the IEC 62858:2015. BS EN IEC 62858:2019 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to IEC 62858:2015. These include:
Two informative annexes are introduced dealing with the determination of lightning density for risk calculation (Annex A) and ground strike point calculation methods (Annex B).
