What is BS EN IEC 63012 - Insulating liquids about?
BS EN IEC 63012 is an international standard on electrotechnical applications which defines requirements for the characterization of unused modified esters or blends of unused esters used as insulating liquids for electrotechnical applications. The main objective of BS EN IEC 63012 is to provide minimum requirements on characterization of new compositions.
Note: BS EN IEC 63012 does not cover liquids that contain any proportion of used liquids.
Who is BS EN IEC 63012 - Insulating liquids for?
BS EN IEC 63012 on insulating liquids is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of electrotechnical devices
- Manufacturers and suppliers of insulation oils
- Electrical equipment industry and technologies
- Electrical engineers
- Mechanical industry
Why should you use BS EN IEC 63012 - Insulating liquids?
Electrical insulation and heat transfer are essential functions of insulating liquids for electrotechnical applications. As the number of sources for ester liquids or their blends is expected to grow over the coming years, such liquids need to be characterized to confirm suitability for the intended application by the user. In this regard, BS EN IEC 63012 aims to provide minimum requirements on characterization of new compositions.
As it addresses various compositions of insulating liquids, BS EN IEC 63012 covers a range of values for certain performance characteristics when these are compared to other recognized liquids with precisely defined performance characteristics. The classification is based on parameters such as fire performance and viscosity. Physical, electrical and chemical properties are also covered in BS EN IEC 63012. Properties related to long-term performance and health, safety and environment considerations are also covered in BS EN IEC 63012.
If you are a manufacturer of electrotechnical devices or insulating oils, BS EN IEC 63012 is beneficial as it could result in improved characteristics such as optimized liquid cost, increased cooling performance, improved flash point, extended insulation life and reduced environmental impacts. BS EN IEC 63012 can also make positive contributions to your product development initiatives.
