What is BS EN IEC 63093-1 about?
BS EN IEC 63093-1 is the first part of a multi-series of international standard that specifies the dimensions and allowable limits of surface irregularities of ferrite cores.
A ferrite core produced by only one or two suppliers can generally be considered a specialty part, and not suitable as a standard core within this series. A ferrite core produced by three or more competing manufacturers can generally be considered to be a candidate to be included in this series.
BS EN IEC 63093-1 is considered as a general specification useful in the dialogue between ferrite core suppliers and users about surface irregularities.
Who is BS EN IEC 63093-1 for?
BS EN IEC 63093-1 on ferrite cores is relevant to:
- Ferrite core manufacturers and suppliers
- Transformer manufacturers
- Telecommunication industries
- Electronics industry
Why should you use BS EN IEC 63093-1?
A ferrite core is a type of magnetic core made of ferrite on which the windings of electric transformers and other wound components such as inductors are formed. Due to the method of manufacture and the physical nature of the products, ferrite cores can be expected to exhibit some degree of physical irregularities such as chips, ragged edges, cracks, flashing, and pull-outs.
BS EN IEC 63093-1 ensures that all surfaces of the core will be clean and free from loose ferrite particles or any other foreign matter. This is critical for mating surfaces that should make good contact with one another. The irregularities described are considered as being detectable without the use of any magnifying equipment.
Moreover, you will be able to limit the residual air gap between the two core halves, which may significantly improve its influence on the magnetic properties of the complete circuit.
As a manufacturer, compliance with BS EN IEC 63093-1 can assist with maintaining uniformity and consistency in quality and performance of ferrite cores irrespective of the application where used.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 63093-1:2020 supersedes BS EN 60424‑1:2016 and BS EN 62317‑1:2007, which are withdrawn and includes the following change:
- This document integrates IEC 60424-1 and IEC 62317-1
