What is BS EN IEC 63093-12- Limits of surface irregularities of ring-cores about?
BS EN IEC 63093 is an international standard that discusses ferrite cores. The main objective of the BS EN IEC 63093 series is to ensure ferrite cores meet the required quality and performance levels so as to effectively avoid electromagnetic interference.
BS EN IEC 63093-12 is the 12th part of the multi-series specifies the dimensions that are of importance for mechanical interchangeability for a preferred range of ring-cores, also called toroid cores, and the effective parameter values to be used in calculations involving them. It also gives guidelines on allowable limits of surface irregularities applicable to ring cores.
BS EN IEC 63093-12 is a specification useful in the negotiations between ferrite core manufacturers and users about surface irregularities.
Who is BS EN IEC 63093-12- Limits of surface irregularities of ring-cores for?
BS EN IEC 63093-12 on ferrite cores is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of ferrite cores
- Manufacturers and suppliers of ring-cores
- Transformer and inductor manufacturers
- Electronics industry
Why should you use BS EN IEC 63093-12- Limits of surface irregularities of ring-cores?
A ferrite core is a type of magnetic core made of ferrite on which the windings of electric transformers and other wound components such as inductors are formed. Due to the method of manufacture and the physical nature of the products, ferrite cores can be expected to exhibit some degree of physical irregularities such as chips, ragged edges, cracks, flashing, and pull-outs. Ring cores are used in equipment design to suppress and dissipate high-frequency noise levels caused by electromagnetic devices and are used as maintenance-free low-voltage transformers.
BS EN IEC 63093-12 gives guidance on allowable limits of surface irregularities applicable to ring-cores in accordance with the relevant generic specification.
BS EN IEC 63093-12 also helps identify surface defects in pot-cores, such as chips, cracks, ragged edges, pores and pull-out, which helps in mitigating overall application performance concerns. The limits of these surface irregularities are helpful to determine the extent of damage due to which product failure can occur.
Compliance with the best industry requirements on dimensions provided by BS EN IEC 63093-12 ensures mechanical interchangeability of complete assemblies and wound coil formers.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 63093-12:2019 supersedes BS EN 62317‑12:2016 and BS EN 60424‑4:2016, which are withdrawn and include a technical change:
- IEC 63093-12 integrates the contents of IEC 62317-12:2016 and IEC 60424-4:2015
