What is BS EN IEC 63137‑1 - Radio-frequency connectors about?
BS EN IEC 63137 is a series on standard test radio-frequency connectors. A coaxial RF connector is an electrical connector designed to work at radio frequencies in the multi-megahertz range. BS EN IEC 63137‑1 defines general requirements for standard test radio frequency (RF) connectors (grade 0), including terms and definitions, ratings and characteristics, general requirements, test methods, quality assessment procedures, etc.
BS EN IEC 63137‑1 are intended to measure grade 1 and grade 2 RF connectors for electrical performances. Typically, a standard test radio frequency (RF) connector (grade 0) is an adapter with one end (normally a precision connector interface) which can be connected with measurement equipment and the other end (normally a standard test connector interface) which can be connected with grade 1 or grade 2 connectors.
Who is BS EN IEC 63137‑1 - Radio-frequency connectors for?
BS EN IEC 63137‑1 on radio-frequency connectors is useful for:
- Telecommunication equipment manufacturers
- Telecommunication components manufacturers
- Design engineers
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use BS EN IEC 63137‑1 - Radio-frequency connectors?
Radiofrequency connectors are typically used with coaxial cables and are designed to maintain the shielding that the coaxial design offers. Common types of RF connectors are used for TV receivers, two-way radio, certain Wi-Fi devices with removable antennas, and industrial or scientific measurements instruments using radio frequencies. BS EN IEC 63137‑1 defines the connectors that are designed and constructed to ensure these features including adequate accuracy, uniform impedance, long mechanical durability, and good repeatability. The relevant specification is not intended to restrict those designs and dimensions for details of construction that do not influence interchangeability or performance, nor are they to be used as manufacturing drawings.
All of the mechanical drawings shall be made as specified in BS EN IEC 63137‑1. The dimensions and tolerances shall be given in metric units. During the conversion of dimensions given in inches into millimeters, they shall, in principle, be rounded to the nearest 0,000 1 mm or 0,000 05 in. Using BS EN IEC 63137‑1 you can define general requirements for standard test radio frequency (RF) connectors.
