What is ISO 11114‑2 about?
ISO 11114 series focuses on the compatibility of gas cylinders and gas cylinder valves with the gas contents of the cylinder. ISO 11114‑2 gives guidance on the selection and evaluation of compatibility between non-metallic materials for gas cylinders and valves and the gas contents. ISO 11114‑2 is applicable to tubes, pressure drums and bundles of cylinders.
ISO 11114‑2 considers the influence of the gas in changing the material and mechanical properties (e.g., chemical reaction or change in physical state).
ISO 11114‑2 covers composite and laminated materials used for gas cylinders.
Note 1: ISO 11114‑2 does not cover ceramics, glasses and adhesives.
Note 2: The basic properties of the materials, such as mechanical properties required for design purposes (normally available from the materials supplier), are not considered in ISO 11114‑2.
Note 3: ISO 11114‑2 does not apply to cryogenic fluids.
Who is ISO 11114‑2 for?
ISO 11114‑2 on gas cylinders is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of gas cylinders and gas cylinders valves
- Powering industrial ovens sectors
- Inspection bodies that include inspection of gas cylinders in their service
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use ISO 11114‑2?
The compatibility of gases with non-metallic materials is affected by chemical reactions and physical influences. Compatibility depends mainly on the operating conditions such as pressure, temperature, gas velocity, particles, equipment design and application. ISO 11114‑2 guides you about the compatibility of non-metallic materials which is used for the construction of gas cylinders and gas cylinders valves as seals. Following these guidelines helps you to avoid friction and ensure the sealing of the gas cylinder and valve connection.
ISO 11114‑2 provides you with information on types of non-metallic materials mostly used for cylinders, compatibility data, non-compatibility risks. ISO 11114‑2 also provides you with all performance and safety requirements for gas cylinders and valves which ensure the correct functioning and fitting of the valve of gas cylinders and checks for other detects in the cylindrical valve prior to dispatch on storage. Using ISO 11114‑2 you understand the selection and evaluation of compatibility between non-metallic materials for gas cylinders and valves and the gas contents.
