What is ISO 11126-7-Non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives about?
ISO 11126 discusses non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives. ISO 11126-7 is the seventh part of the ISO 11126 multi-series and discusses fused aluminium oxide. Aluminium Oxide is commonly found in anti-slip surfaces, sandpaper, and ceramics but it's also used as an abrasive media for blast cleaning and is suited to most substrates, including marble, steel, glass, and granite.
ISO 11126-7 specifies requirements for fused aluminium oxide abrasives, as supplied for blast-cleaning processes. The requirements specified in ISO 11126-7 apply to abrasives supplied in the "new" condition only. They do not apply to abrasives either during or after use. Test methods for non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives are given in the various parts of ISO 11127.
Note: Although ISO 11126-7 has been developed specifically to meet requirements for the preparation of steelwork, the properties specified will generally be appropriate for use when preparing other material surfaces, or components, using blast-cleaning techniques. These techniques are described in ISO 8504-2.
Who is ISO 11126-7-Non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives for?
ISO 11126-7 on specifications for non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives (Fused aluminium oxide) is useful for:
- Steel products manufacturers
- Paint industries
- Interior and exterior designer
- Painters
Why should you use ISO 11126-7-Non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives?
Abrasive blast cleaning is the method of surface preparation by abrasive particles forced by either compressed air or water jet. The particles impact the surface at high velocity and produce the effects of cleaning, roughening and activation.
ISO 11126-7 specifies requirements for fused aluminium oxide abrasives, as supplied for blast-cleaning processes. ISO 11126-7 specifies ranges of particle sizes and values for apparent density, bulk density, Mohs hardness, moisture content, the conductivity of aqueous extract and water-soluble chlorides. A clean surface is required for better adhesion of paints as clean surfaces help in the longevity of paints and ISO 11126-7 helps you to keep the surface clean before application of paints and related products of a steel substrate.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 11126-7:2018 supersedes BS EN ISO 111267:2001, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 11126-7:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 111267:2001. These include:
- Tables 1 and 2 and Annex A have been technically revised.
- Annex B has been added
