What is ISO 11173 - Staircase method on thermoplastics pipes about?
Thermoplastics pipes are lightweight and durable which makes them popular. ISO 11173 specifies a method for determining the resistance to external blows of thermoplastic pipes of circular Cross-section; it is called the staircase method.
This method described in ISO 11173 applies to isolated batches of pipe to be tested at 0 °C.
Note: If testing below 0 “C is necessary, a temperature of - 20 “C is recommended.
Who is ISO 11173 - Staircase method on thermoplastics pipes for?
ISO 11173 on staircase method on thermoplastics pipes is useful for companies associated with:
- Water distribution
- Drainage and sewage system
- Waste management
- Irrigation
- Conduit
- Fire sprinkler
- Process piping
- Gas distribution
ISO 11173 is also useful for transport companies related to oil and gas.
Why should you use ISO 11173 - Staircase method on thermoplastics pipes?
Thermoplastics are plastic polymers used as alternatives to traditional pipelining materials. They are used in handling slurries like bottom ash, fly ash, and different types of abrasive solutions. Thermoplastics pipes offer high-pressure capacity, reliability, ruggedness, corrosion resistance, and are easy to install.
ISO 11173 walks you through the process to determine the resistance of thermoplastics pipes to external blows. ISO 11173 provides guidance on:
- Falling-weight testing machine
- Main frame
- Striker
- Rigid tets support
- Release mechanism
- Preparation
- Number of test pieces
The guidelines in ISO 11173 help you provide your customers with durable thermoplastics pipes.
