What is ISO 11296-4 about?
ISO 11296-4 is the fourth part of a multi-series of documents is applicable to plastics piping systems for renovation of underground non-pressure drainage and sewerage networks.
ISO 11296-4, in conjunction with ISO 11296-1, specifies requirements and test methods for cured-in-place pipes (CIPP) and fittings used for the renovation of underground non-pressure drainage and sewerage networks with service temperatures up to 50 °C.
Note: It applies to the use of various thermosetting resin systems, in combination with compatible fibrous carrier materials, reinforcement, and other process-related plastics components.
Who is ISO 11296-4 for?
ISO 11296-4 on CIPP and fittings in renovation of plastic piping systems is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of CIPPs and fittings used in plastic piping systems
- Designers of CIPP
- Installers
- Civil engineers
- Contractors
- Renovation and maintenance personnel
- Public authorities
Why should you use ISO 11296-4?
The primary objective of plastic piping systems is to efficiently regulate underground water delivery networks. Appropriate appliance usage of fittings and pipes is crucial for the efficient functioning of the overall system which minimize health risks and hygiene concerns.
The test method described under ISO 11296-4 will help you in repairing the existing host pipeline by providing support with the newly hardened pipe. ISO 11296-4 informs of the standards for plastics piping systems of various materials used for the renovation of existing pipelines in a specified application area.
The requirements and test methods under ISO 11296-4 will help you assess and evaluate material, physical, mechanical and geometrical characteristics of lining with the specified pipes and fittings.
The resin system and carrier material are essential features of the finished pipe. The carrier material generally affects the properties of the composite, e.g. by either increasing or decreasing mechanical resistance. In this regard, ISO 11296-4 provides specific component functions as well as possible end product (“I” stage) functions such as leak tightness, stiffness, strength, hydraulic smoothness, chemical resistance, jetting resistance and abrasion resistance. The other components can be present, depending on the specific CIPP lining technique used.
ISO 11296-4 specifies a method for determining the long-term flexural modulus of CIPP material subjected to constant flexural stress under dry or wet conditions.
With compliance to ISO 11296-4, as a manufacturer of CIPP, you will be able to deliver high- quality pipes for easy and quick in-situ rehabilitation of underground non-pressure drainage and sewerage networks. Moreover, ensuring the process for lining with CIPPs is standardized, will enhance the reliability and credibility of your products.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 11296-4:2018+A1:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 11296‑4:2018, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 11296-4:2018+A1:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 112967:2013. These include:
- The service temperature range has been explicitly stated in the scope
- The requirements on “M” stage strength characteristics of the neat resin system have been removed in Table 2, as they have been effectively covered in Table 5 by the “I” stage requirements on mechanical characteristics of the cured composite
- New requirements for the nature of the bond of any semi-permanent internal membrane to the underlying composite, and for declaration of a class of composite in accordance with ISO 14125, have been added in 8.1
- The following have been added to Table 6: a) option of ring test for wet creep factor b) test for long-term
- Further requirements for documenting specific installation parameters and procedures, and the related environmental precautions, in the installation manual for each individual CIPP technique, have been added in 9.4
- Requirements for documentation in the installation manual of technique-specific methods for sealing liner connections at manholes and laterals have been added in 9.7
