What is ISO 11844‑2 about ?
ISO 11844-2 is the first part of the ISO 11844 series of documents on corrosion of metals and alloys. ISO 11844-2 is an international standard on corrosion of metals and alloys that assists you to calculate the indoor corrosivity of metal and alloys.
ISO 11844‑2 specifies methods for determining corrosion rates with standard specimens of metals in indoor atmospheres with low corrosivity.
ISO 11844‑2 is a direct method for evaluation of corrosivity, different sensitive methods can be applied using standard specimens of the following metals: copper, silver, zinc, steel, and lead.
ISO 11844‑2 values are used as classification criteria for the determination of indoor atmospheric corrosivity.
Who is ISO 11844‑2 for ?
ISO 11844‑2 on corrosion of metals and alloys is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of metal and alloy components
- Suppliers of metal and alloy components
- Service and inspection department of metal industries
Why should you use ISO 11844‑2 ?
The determination of the corrosion attack is, at the present state of knowledge, the most reliable and usually, also an economical way for evaluating corrosivity, considering all the main local environmental influences.
ISO 11844‑2 provides you with information on different methods for the determination of corrosion rate such as mass change measurement, electrolytic cathodic reduction, resistance measurement, quartz crystal micro-balance method which allow you to determine the corrosion attack in indoor atmospheres.
ISO 11844‑2 provides you with standard specimens, exposure, and evaluation for the derivation of indoor corrosivity categories which allows you to accurately determine corrosion attacks in indoor atmospheres and prevent them.
What is changed since the last update ?
BS EN ISO 11844‑2:2020 supersedes 11844‑2:2008, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS EN ISO 11844‑2:2020 include –
- Lead has been included as a standard specimen with high sensitivity to vapour organic acids
- Annex D has been added
