What is ISO 11970 - Welding Procedure Specification about?
ISO 11970 is an international standard on welding procedures that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for high-quality welding. ISO 11970 specifies how a welding procedure specification (WPS) for the production welding of steel castings is qualified. ISO 11970 defines the conditions for the execution of welding procedure qualification tests and the limits of validity of a qualified welding procedure for all practical welding operations within the range of essential variables.
Tests are intended to be carried out in accordance with ISO 11970 unless additional tests are specified by the purchaser or by agreement between the contracting parties.
ISO 11970 applies to the arc welding of steel castings. The principles of ISO 11970 can be applied to other fusion welding processes subject to agreement between the contracting parties.
In the case of specific service, material, or manufacturing conditions, tests more comprehensive than those specified by ISO 11970 can be specified by the purchaser, in order to gain more information, e.g. longitudinal weld tensile tests, bend tests, chemical analyses, ferrite determination in austenitic stainless steels, elongation, Charpy “V” impact tests, and radiography.
Who is ISO 11970 - Welding Procedure Specification for?
ISO 11970 on welding procedures for production welding of steel castings is relevant to:
- Welders
- Manufacturer of steel castings
Why should you use ISO 11970 - Welding Procedure Specification?
A Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is the formal written document describing welding procedures, which provides direction to the welder or welding operators for making sound and quality production welds as per the code requirements. The WPS is also used for submittal to clients, engineers, or inspectors.
ISO 11970 provides guidance on preliminary welding procedure specification (pWPS), welding procedure qualification, test piece, examination and testing, range of qualification, welding procedure qualification record (wpqr).
As a user of ISO 11970, you can be ensured of welding procedure specifications. With obedience and compliance to ISO 11970, you can efficiently perform high-quality welding. ISO 11970 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence. With ISO 11970 you can be ensured that the welding consistently meets and exceed quality assurance targets.
