What is ISO 12945-3 about?
ISO 12945-3 is the third part of the multi-series standard ISO 12945. ISO 12945-3 specifies a method for the determination of the resistance to pilling, fuzzing, and matting of textile fabrics using the random tumble pilling tester. This method is applicable to most of the woven and knitted fabrics, including napped fabrics (fleeces, inlay fabrics).
Note- ISO 12945-3 is not applicable to fabrics that cannot tumble freely.
Who is ISO 12945-3 for?
ISO 12945-3 on the determination of fabric propensity by random tumble pilling method is useful for:
- Textile manufacturing industries
- Textile testers
Why should you use ISO 12945-3?
A pilling test will measure and determine how resistant fabrics are to pilling or fuzzing.
Pills are formed when fibres on a fabric surface “tease out” and become entangled during wear. Such surface deterioration is undesirable, but the degree of consumer tolerance for a given level of pilling will depend on the garment type and fabric end-use.
The Random Tumble Pilling Tester is used to determine the pilling and fuzzing characteristics of textile fabrics.
ISO 12945-3 helps you determine the resistance to pilling, fuzzing, and matting of textile fabrics using the random tumble pilling tester.
Use the fuzzing or pilling by random tumble pilling tester to protect the fibre and for the best performance of the fibre and durability and improve the consumer confidence for the product.
What is changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 12945-3:2020 supersedes ISO 12945-3:2000. BS EN ISO 12945-3:2020includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 12945-3:2000. These include:
- Visual assessment of pilling, fuzzing, and matting have been carried out according to ISO 129454.
