What is ISO 12960 about?
ISO 12960 specifies methods for screening the resistance of geotextile and geotextile-related products to liquids while not subjecting them to external mechanical stress.
ISO 12960 is applicable to all geotextiles and geotextile-related products. Method A applies particularly to polyamides and method B to polyesters and polyamides. The test results are intended to be interpreted in the context of site conditions.
ISO 12960 is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO/TS 13434.
Who is ISO 12960 for?
ISO 12960 on screening the resistance of geotextile and geotextile-related products is useful for:
- Geotextiles and geotextile-related products manufacturing industries
- Geotextiles and geotextile-related products testers
Why should you use ISO 12960?
A geotextile is typically defined as any permeable textile material used to increase soil stability, provide erosion control, or aid in drainage. Geotextiles and geotextile-related products can be in contact with aqueous solutions of acids, bases, or dissolved oxygen. The resistance of geotextile products to these chemicals depends.
ISO 12960 provides the required guidance on methods of screening (index testing) the resistance of geotextile products to acids and bases.
Screening the resistance of geotextile products to acids and base is for checking the exposing time that is short compared to the expected lifetimes of geotextile and geotextile-related products and on polymer formulation, processing, textile structure, and the presence of existing damage and on the composition of the liquid and in situ conditions such as temperature, pressure and the presence of further mechanical stress for giving the best performance of the geotextile and geotextile related products. Determining the chemical screening in geotextile products benefits the company to reduce the maintaining cost of the geotextile products for a longer time and protecting the geotextile protects from harmful chemicals.
What is changed since the last update?
This first edition of ISO 12960 supersedes ISO/TR 12960:1998, which has been technically revised. BS EN ISO 12960:2020 consolidates ISO/TR 12960:1998 and EN 14030:2001 and replaces both.
