What is ISO 12999-1 about?
ISO 12999 discusses building acoustics along with the determination and application of its measurement uncertainties. ISO 12999-1 is an international standard that provides assistance to measure and apply measurement uncertainties of sound insulation in building acoustics.
ISO 12999-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that specifies procedures for assessing the measurement uncertainty of sound insulation in building acoustics.
ISO 12999-1 provides for:
- A detailed uncertainty assessment
- Determination of uncertainties by inter-laboratory tests
- An application for uncertainties
Who is ISO 12999-1 for?
ISO 12999-1 on sound insulation is relevant to:
- Builders
- Construction companies
- Civil engineers
- Acoustic engineers
Why should you use ISO 12999-1?
An assessment of uncertainties that is comprehensible and close to reality is indispensable for many reasons in building acoustics.
It determines whether the acoustic properties of a product are better than the same properties in another product or whether a requirement is met or if a laboratory has delivered correct results or not.
Under ISO 12999-1 the concept of reproducibility and repeatability is incorporated which is the traditional approach for uncertainty determination in building acoustics. It offers the possibility to state the uncertainty of a method and measurements carried out according to the method, based on the results of inter-laboratory measurements.
ISO 12999-1 determines uncertainties of sound insulation in building acoustics that is useful for constructing better-insulated buildings and thus, maintaining the property value of the buildings.
ISO 12999-1 prevents measurement uncertainties and assists in providing better sound insulation systems in buildings to improve the standard and value of the buildings.
ISO 12999-1 provides assistance in applying measurement uncertainties of sound insulation in building acoustics.
Efficient sound insulation in building acoustics can be maintained by assessing measurement uncertainties provided under ISO 12999-1.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 12999-1:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 12999-1:2014 which is withdrawn. The main changes with respect to the previous edition are:
- Addition of new references
- Adaption of wording referring to the quantity in clause
