What is ISO 12999-2 about?
ISO 12999-2 discusses building acoustics along with the determination and application of its measurement uncertainties. ISO 12999-2 is an international standard that provides assistance to measure and apply measurement uncertainties of sound absorption in building acoustics.
ISO 12999-2 is the second part of a multi-part series that specifies the use of uncertainties in reporting measured or weighted sound absorption coefficients.
ISO 12999-2 provides a way for calculating:
- The uncertainty of sound absorption coefficients and equivalent sound absorption areas
- The uncertainty of the practical and weighted sound absorption coefficients
- The uncertainty of the object sound absorption coefficient
- The uncertainty of the single number rating
Who is ISO 12999-2 for?
ISO 12999-2 on sound absorption is relevant to:
- Builders
- Construction companies
- Civil engineers
- Acoustic engineers
Why should you use ISO 12999-2?
Sound absorption is the process in which an object or structure takes in sound energy when they are encountered by sound waves as opposed to reflecting the energy.
An assessment of uncertainties that is comprehensible and close to reality is indispensable for many reasons in building acoustics. It determines whether the acoustic properties of a product are better than the same properties in another product or whether a requirement is met or if a laboratory has delivered correct results or not.
Under ISO 12999-2 the concept of reproducibility and repeatability is incorporated which is the traditional approach for uncertainty determination in building acoustics. It offers the possibility to state the uncertainty of a method and measurements carried out according to the method, based on the results of inter-laboratory measurements.
ISO 12999-2 determines uncertainties of sound absorption in building acoustics that is useful for constructing better-insulated buildings and thus, maintaining the property value of the buildings.
ISO 12999-2 prevents measurement uncertainties and assists in providing better sound absorption systems in buildings to improve the standard and value of the buildings.
ISO 12999-2 provides assistance in applying measurement uncertainties of sound absorption in building acoustics.
Efficient sound absorption in building acoustics can be maintained by assessing measurement uncertainties provided under ISO 12999-2.
