What is ISO 13229 – Thermoplastics piping systems for non-pressure applications about?
ISO 13229 is an International Standard that discusses thermoplastics piping systems for non-pressure applications. ISO 13229 aims to provide methods for the assessment of unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) pipes and fittings by determining viscosity number and K-value.
ISO 13229 specifies a method for the determination of the viscosity number (also known as reduced viscosity) and K-value of an unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) resin derived from a pipe, fitting or compound.
In ISO 13229, only the method for isolation (or separation) of the PVC resin is detailed, while the determination of the viscosity number is given in ISO 1628-2.
Note: The presence of other additives or polymers can invalidate ISO 13229 method.
Who is ISO 13229 - Thermoplastics piping systems for non-pressure applications for?
ISO 13229 on thermoplastics piping systems for non-pressure applications form is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of PVC-U pipes
- Product designers and specifiers
- Thermoplastic pipe manufacturers
- Quality control and testing personnel
- Inspection and maintenance personnel
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use ISO 13229 - Thermoplastics piping systems for non-pressure applications?
Thermoplastic piping systems are made up of PVC-U pipes and fittings. These are intended to stay in a fixed position for a very long period. Thus, any issue regarding its functionality can cause hamper in flow of water through it. Thus, the measure of viscosity can help determine the efficiency of the PVC-U made thermoplastic piping systems.
ISO 13229 provides you guidance on a method to determine the viscosity number and K-value of PVC-U resin derived from pipe, fitting or compound. ISO 13229 also provides you with a step-by-step procedure for the method, enabling you to do the technique correctly.
ISO 13229 provides you guidance on principle, reagents for isolation of PVC resin, apparatus, procedure, calculation of K-value, accuracy and test report, enabling you to accurately determine the viscosity number and K-value.
Thus, if you are a manufacturer of PVC-U pipes used in thermoplastic piping systems, compliance with ISO 13229 guidelines can help you to assess your products to prevent resistance to flow, ensuring efficiency and performance in piping systems.
