What is ISO 13517 about?
ISO 13517 specifies a method for determining the flow rate of metallic powders, including powders for hard metals and mixes of metallic powders and organic additives such as lubricants, using a calibrated funnel (Gustavsson flowmeter).
The method applies only to powders that flow freely through the specified test orifice.
Who is ISO 13517 for?
ISO 13517 on Metallic powders is beneficial for
- Metallurgist
- Mechanical engineer
- Metal industries
Why should you use ISO 13517?
The Gustavsson flow meter is used to measure the flow rate of fine Metallic powders.
ISO 13517 provides information on apparatus, calibration of the funnel, procedure, expression of results, test report of the flow rate of metallic powders using a calibrated funnel (Gustavsson flowmeter).
As a user of ISO 13517, you can determine the flow rate of metallic powder. ISO 13517 helps to detect flow problems before the powder is introduced in the processing equipment. Moreover, ISO 13517 is a perfect tool to quantify powder spreadability, which plays a key role during the manufacturing process. Overall ISO 13517 helps to improve the quality of the metallic powder.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 13517:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 13517:2013, which is withdrawn.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Tolerance for the funnel angle has been added
- Reference grit has been used instead of Chinese emery grit
- The mandatory clauses 2 and 3 (normative references and terms and definitions) have been added and the subsequent clauses have been renumbered
