What is BS EN ISO 13693-1-Small plastics valves for chemigation about?
BS EN ISO 13693-1 is an international standard that covers requirements for irrigation equipment, specifically small plastics valves for chemigation that enables reduced soil compaction and uniform application of fertilizers for improved crop yields.
BS EN ISO 13693-1 specifies the general requirements and test methods for small plastics-bodied valves used for chemigation, hereinafter referred to as “the device”, intended for operation in irrigation pipe systems that may contain fertilizers and chemicals of the type and concentration used in agriculture.
BS EN ISO 13693-1 applies to controllable safety devices (also known as backflow preventers) with a reduced pressure zone (RPZ), intended to prevent backflow by back-siphonage or backpressure of irrigation water into an upstream potable water distribution system whenever the pressure in the latter is lower than that in the system located downstream.
BS EN ISO 13693-1 applies to such devices of nominal size up to and including DN 50 (2”), with a nominal pressure of PN10, that are capable of working without modification or adjustment:
- At any pressure up to 1 MPa (10 bar)
- With any pressure variation up to 1 MPa (10 bar)
- In permanent duty at temperatures up to 45 °C and for 1 h at 65 °C
Who is BS EN ISO 13693-1-Small plastics valves for chemigation for?
BS EN ISO 13693-1 on small plastics valves for chemigation applies to:
- Manufacturers of irrigation equipment
- Dealers and importers of irrigation equipment
- Testing houses for irrigation equipment
Why should you use BS EN ISO 13693-1-Small plastics valves for chemigation?
Chemigation is the process of injecting an agricultural chemical (fertilizer or pesticide) into irrigation water to apply to the soil or plant surface with an irrigation system. Chemigation facilitates reduced application costs and uniform application of fertilizers and pesticides.
BS EN ISO 13693-1 provides users guidance on testing small plastics valves, including test conditions, expression of results, order of testing, mechanical characteristics, tightness tests, hydraulic characteristics, long-term pressure endurance, ensuring the safety and performance in irrigation applications.
BS EN ISO 13693-1 provides users guidance on marking small plastic valves, including manufacturer’s name, brand or logo, nominal size, nominal pressure, reference code, unit identification number and more, facilitating classification, identification, and usability in agricultural applications.
The adoption of BS EN ISO 13693-1 allows users to develop and assess small plastic valves for chemigation, ensuring the safety, performance and longevity in irrigation applications.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 13693-1:2017 supersedes BS ISO 13693-1:2013, which is now withdrawn.
