What is ISO 13919‑1- Electron and laser-beam welded joints about?
The ISO 13919 series discusses electron and laser-beam welded joints.
ISO 13919‑1 is the first part in the multi-series of documents that specifies requirements and recommendations on levels of imperfections in electron and laser-beam welded joints in steel, nickel, titanium, and their alloys. Three levels are given in such a way as to permit application for a wide range of welded fabrications.
Quality level B corresponds to the highest requirement of the finished weld. The levels refer to production quality and not to the fitness-for-purpose of the product manufactured
ISO 13919‑1 is applicable for to electron and laser beam welding of:
- Steel, nickel, titanium, and their alloys
- All types of welds welded with or without additional filler wire
- Materials equal to or above 0,5 mm thickness for electron and laser beam welding
ISO 13919‑1 does not address the methods used for the detection of imperfections.
ISO 13919‑1 is directly applicable to visual examination of welds and does not include details of recommended methods of detection or sizing by other non-destructive means.
Note: Metallurgical aspects, e.g. grain size, hardness are not covered by ISO 13919‑1.
Who is ISO 13919‑1- Electron and laser-beam welded joints for?
ISO 13919‑1 on electron and laser-beam welded joints is useful for:
- Manufacturers and designers of electron and laser-beam welded joints
- Construction, automotive, mechanical industry
- Manufacturers of aircraft & aerospace
- Manufacturers of pressure vessels
- Sheet metal manufacturers
- Shipbuilding industry
- Welders and fabricators
Why should you use ISO 13919‑1- Electron and laser-beam welded joints?
ISO 13919‑1 is meant to be used as a reference when developing application codes and/or other applicable standards. It is a condensed list of laser and electron beam welding flaws based on the ISO 6520-1 designation.
ISO 13919‑1 helps you identify dimensions of typical imperfections which can be expected in normal fabrication. It can be used within a quality management system for the production of welded joints and provides three sets of dimensional values from which a selection can be made for a particular application.
By adopting ISO 13919‑1 guidance, you can manufacture electron and laser-beam welded joints that meet quality guidelines and impart a high degree of operational and functional efficiency to the end-use application. This can help you build trust and reliability throughout the welding joints’ supply chain.
