What is ISO 14122-1-General requirements of access to machinery about?
ISO 14122 is a European standard on the permanent means of access to machinery for the safety of machinery. ISO 14122-1 discusses the choice of fixed means of access to machinery to ensure protection against machinery hazards.
ISO 14122-1 is the first in a multi-part series that specifies general requirements for access to stationary machines and guidance about the correct choice of means of access, when necessary, access to the stationary machine is not possible directly from the ground level or a floor.
ISO 14122-1 applies to permanent means of access which are a part of a stationary machine, and also to nonpowered adjustable parts (e.g. foldable, slidable) and movable parts of fixed means of access.
ISO 14122-1 also applies to both stationary and mobile machinery where fixed means of access are necessary.
Note1: ISO 14122-1 does not apply to powered means of access such as lifts, escalators, or other devices specially designed to lift persons between two levels.
Note 2: “Fixed” means of access are those mounted in such a manner (for example, by screws, nuts, welding) that they can only be removed using tools.
Who is ISO 14122-1- General requirements of access to machinery for?
ISO 14122-1 on the general requirements of access to machinery is useful for:
- Machine manufacturers (small, medium, and large enterprises)
- Machine employers (small, medium, and large enterprises)
- Machine employees (e.g., trade unions, organizations for people with special needs)
- Service providers, e.g., for maintenance (small, medium, and large enterprises)
- Occupational health and safety hazards
Why should you use ISO 14122-1- General requirements of access to machinery?
Machines can p improve production efficiency in the workplace. However, their moving parts, sharp edges, and hot surfaces can also cause serious workplace injuries such as crushed fingers or hands, amputations, burns, or blindness. Safeguards are essential to protect workers from injury.
ISO 14122-1 provides you with significant hazards, general requirements for design and construction, requirements for the selection of the fixed means of access, general requirements for information for use, and much more.
The requirements provided by ISO 14122-1 assist in improving the performance of machinery and ensuring the protection to workers against risks of slipping, tripping or falling, and any machinery injuries.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 14122-1, you can enhance production efficiency in the workplace and manufacture a standardized product.
