What is ISO 14123-2-Methodology leading to verification procedures for the safety of machinery about?
ISO 14123 is an international standard on the safety of machinery that discusses the reduction of risks to health resulting from hazardous substances emitted by machinery.
ISO 14123-2 is the second part of the ISO 14123 series that establishes a methodology that leads to the selection of critical factors relating to emissions of hazardous substances for the purpose of specifying suitable verification procedures.
ISO 14123-2 is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO 14123‑1 and relates specifically to
ISO 14123‑1:2015, Clause 8.
Who is ISO 14123-2-Methodology leading to verification procedures for the safety of machinery for?
ISO 14123-2 on the methodology leading to verification procedures for the safety of machinery is useful for:
- Industrial machinery manufacturers
- Service providers, e.g., for maintenance (small, medium, and large enterprises)
- Machine users/employees (e.g., trade unions, organizations for people with special needs)
- Occupational health and safety departments
Why should you use ISO 14123-2-Methodology leading to verification procedures for the safety of machinery?
Moving machinery can cause injuries in many ways: People can be struck and injured by moving parts of machinery or ejected material. Safeguards are essential to protect workers from injury. Any machine part, function, or process that might cause injury should be safeguarded. When the operation of a machine may result in a contact injury to the operator or others in the area, the hazard should be removed or controlled.
ISO 14123-2 provides you guidance with the identification of hazardous substances, characterization of emissions, identification of critical factors, specification of indicative parameters, verification, and a flow diagram of steps leading to the verification procedure.
ISO 14123-2 provides guidance to enable the development of procedures relating to verification. These procedures assist you in considering the health risks associated with the emission of hazardous substances in all phases of the machine life cycle and ensure protection to workers against machinery hazards.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 14123-2, you can enhance the efficacy of the machinery and manufacture a standardized product.
