What is ISO 14174-Fluxes for submerged arc welding and electroslag welding about?
ISO 14174 is an International Standard on welding consumables.
ISO 14174 specifies requirements for the classification of fluxes for submerged arc welding and electroslag welding for joining and overlay welding using wire electrodes, tubular cored electrodes, and strip electrodes.
The main objective of ISO 14174 is to establish standardized classification of fluxes that impart high degree of reliability and performance for welding applications.
Who is ISO 14174-Fluxes for submerged arc welding and electroslag welding for?
ISO 14174 on fluxes for submerged arc welding and electroslag welding is relevant to:
- Automotive, mechanical industry
- Welding equipment manufacturers
- Machine manufacturers
- Manufacturers of pressure vessels
- Earthmoving tools manufacturers
- Shipbuilding industry
- Railroad and locomotive construction
Why should you use ISO 14174-Fluxes for submerged arc welding and electroslag welding?
Granular flux used in welding is a type of granular insulative material that is made up of numerous small particles. In Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), the granular flux provides a blanket over the weld, which protects against sparks and spatter.
ISO 14174 helps you standardize the classification of fluxes for submerged arc welding and electroslag welding processes. Having a common point of reference for classification improves the efficiency of submerged arc welding and electroslag welding.
Adopting guidelines in ISO 14174 help you improve in quality and efficiency of submerged arc welding and electroslag welding by applying standard classification of fluxes in the welding process using wire electrodes, tubular cored electrodes, and strip electrodes. As a result, you can make the right selection of flux as per your specific application, for enhanced welding quality, reliability and equipment performance.
