What is ISO 14341 about?
ISO 14341 is a series of documents that specifies the requirements for wire electrodes and weld deposits in the as welded and post-weld heat-treated conditions for gas shielded metal arc welding of non-alloy and fine grain steels with a minimum yield strength of up to 500 MPa or a minimum tensile strength of up to 570 MPa. With different shielding gases, a single wire electrode can be tested and classified.
ISO 14341 comprises a combined specification providing classification utilizing a system based upon the yield strength and the average impact energy of 47 J of all-weld metal, or utilizing a system based upon the tensile strength and the average impact energy of 27 J of all-weld metal.
Who is ISO 14341 for?
ISO 14341 on welding consumables applicable to:
- Welding consumables manufacturers
- Sheet metal, non-alloy, and fine grain steels manufacturers
- Manufacturers of pressure vessels
- Manufacturers of aircraft & aerospace
- Construction, automotive, mechanical Industries
- Railroad construction Industry
- Shipbuilding industry
Why should you use BS EN ISO 14341?
Gas shielded metal arc welding is an arc welding process that protects the welding zone against environmental influences. This process is characterized by high versatility with respect to the material, the degree of mechanization and the welding position. Gas-shielded metal arc welding can be used for almost all weldable materials.ISO 14341 recognizes that there are two rather distinct approaches to classifying a given wire electrode in the global market and allows for either or both to be used to suit a particular market need.
ISO 14341 provides a classification in order to designate wire electrodes in terms of their chemical composition and where required, in terms of the yield strength, tensile strength and elongation of the all-weld metal.
ISO 14341 helps you standardize the classification of welding consumables for gas shielded metal arc welding of non-alloy and fine grain steels. Having a common point of reference for classification improves efficiency of welding processes throughout the welding Industry.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 14341:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 14341:2011, which is withdrawn. In BS EN ISO 14341:2020 all references have been updated with respect to the older version BS EN ISO 14341:2011.
