What is ISO 14556- Metallic materials- Charpy V-notch pendulum impact test about?
ISO 14556 is a safety standard on metallic materials.
ISO 14556 specifies a method of instrumented Charpy V-notch pendulum impact testing on metallic materials and the requirements concerning the measurement and recording equipment.
With respect to the Charpy pendulum impact test described in ISO 148-1, the test described in ISO 14556 provides further information on the fracture behaviour of the product under impact testing conditions.
Note: General information about instrumented impact testing can be found in Reference [1] to Reference [5].
Who is ISO 14556- Metallic materials- Charpy V-notch pendulum impact test for?
ISO 14556 on the Charpy V-notch pendulum impact test for the metallic materials is relevant to:
- Metallurgical engineers
- Testing authorities of Charpy V-notch pendulum impact test
- Manufacturers of pendulum impact testing machine
Why should you use ISO 14556- Metallic materials- Charpy V-notch pendulum impact test?
Metallic materials are inorganic substances, the usual combination of metallic materials, such as iron, titanium, aluminium, and gold.
The test described in ISO 14556 consists of measuring the impact force, in relation to the test piece bending displacement, during an impact test carried out in accordance with ISO 148-1. The area under the force-displacement curve is a measure of the energy absorbed by the test piece. ISO 14556 provides further information on the fracture behaviour of the tested product at impact loading rates.
Overall, ISO 14556 is useful as it assists with instrumented Charpy V-notch pendulum impact testing of miniature test pieces on steel products and the requirements concerning the measurement and recording equipment.
