What is ISO 15614-13 about?
ISO 15614-13 is one of the parts of a multi-series standard specifies tests for the qualification of welding procedure specifications. These specifications are applicable to upset (resistance butt) welding and flash welding of metallic materials, e.g., with solid, tubular, flat or circular cross-section. Its basic principles can also be applied to other resistance welding processes when this is stated in the specification. ISO 15614-13 defines the conditions for carrying out tests and the limits of validity of a qualified welding procedure for all the practical welding operations that it covers.
ISO 15614-13 covers the following resistance welding processes, as defined in ISO 4063:
- 24 flash welding, using direct current or alternating current with various movement sequences, constant flashing, and pulsed flashing
- 25 resistance upset welding, using direct current, or alternating current with various pressure sequences.
Who is ISO 15614-13 for?
ISO 15614-13 on welding of metallic materials is applicable in the following industries:
- Construction, automotive, mechanical Industries
- Sheet metal manufacturers
- Manufacturers of pressure vessels
- Manufacturers of aircraft & aerospace
- Shipbuilding industry
Why should you use ISO 15614-13?
Standardization in welding procedures is becoming more and more important due to the increasing quality and performance standards. ISO 15614-13 helps establish the standardization of upset (resistance butt) welding and flash welding processes of metallic materials by providing guidelines on qualification of welding procedures.
ISO 15614-13 helps improve the quality of upset (resistance butt) welding and flash welding processes of metallic materials in all practical welding operations.
It is intended that all new welding procedure qualifications be performed in accordance with ISO 15614-13 From the date of its publication. Compliance with the standards informs customers that the quality and performance of the products are at the best in industry.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 15614-13:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 15614-13:2012, which is withdrawn.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Petal test was changed to bend test and bend test was changed to three-point bend test
- Clauses 2,3, 7 and 8 have been updated and Table 1 has been modified
