What is ISO 15792-2 about?
ISO 15792-2 is the second part of an international multi-series standard that covers various test methods of welding consumables.
ISO 15792-2 specifies the preparation of butt weld test pieces and specimens. The test pieces and specimens are used to determine the strength and impact properties of welded joints when testing welding consumables with single-run and two-run techniques.
ISO 15792-2 gives technical specifications carrying out test methods such as general requirements, test plate material, preparation of the test piece, welding conditions, heat treatment, position of specimens, specimen dimensions, and testing for welding consumables.
Note 1: 15792-2 is applicable to welding consumables for arc welding of steel.
Note 2: 15792-2 is not suitable for electro-slag or electro-gas welding.
Who is ISO 15792-2 for?
ISO 15792-2 on welding consumables is applicable to:
- Welding consumables manufacturers
- Construction, automotive, mechanical Industries
- Sheet metal manufacturers
- Manufacturers of pressure vessels
- Manufacturers of aircraft & aerospace
- Shipbuilding industry
- Welding equipment manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 15792-2?
Preparation guidelines are necessary for butt weld test pieces and specimens in steel to assess the mechanical properties of weld produced.
ISO 15792-2 provides you with test procedures and acceptance criteria for welding consumables, by providing guidelines on the preparation of butt weld test pieces and specimens. This is useful in classification welding consumables which helps in designing welding procedures and increases in efficiency of welding operations.
The guidelines in ISO 15792-2 help you to manufacture high-quality and durable welded joints by applying standard methods of preparation of butt weld test specimens for steel welded joints. Test specimens are used to determine the strength and impact properties of welded joints while testing the welding consumables.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 15792-2:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 15792-2:2008, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 15792-2:2020 includes the following technical changes:
- The title and scope of this document have been changed
- Clause 10 and Clause 11 have been deleted consequently
- A new type 2.6 has been added to Table 1 reflecting usage in the USA
- In Table 1, the angles in column 3, preparation, have been revised to show the bevel angle with a footnote giving tolerances for 2.1, 2.4 and 2.5
- In Figure 1 b), effective weld length has been added
