What is ISO 17639 - Macroscopic and microscopic features of welded joints about?
This international standard helps its users perform tests that reveal the macroscopic or microscopic features of a welded joint.
ISO 17639 gives recommendations for specimen preparation, test procedures and their main objectives for macroscopic and microscopic examination.
Who is ISO 17639 - Macroscopic and microscopic features of welded joints for?
- ISO 17639 on destructive tests on welds in metallic materials is useful for:
- Sheet metal manufacturers
- Aerospace and shipbuilding industry
- Construction, automotive, mechanical industry
- Welders
Why should you use ISO 17639 - Macroscopic and microscopic features of welded joints?
Destructive weld testing involves the physical destruction of the completed weld in order to evaluate its characteristics. This method of testing is used frequently for a number of applications.
ISO 17639 helps you to assess the structure (including grain structure, morphology and orientation, precipitates and inclusions) independently and/or in relation to various cracks and cavities. ISO 17639 gives guidance on the assessment of features that can be detected by macroscopic and microscopic examination.
Overall, the guidance of ISO 17639 enables you to identify the macroscopic and microscopic features of welded joints.
What’s changed since the last update?
