What is ISO 18254-1 – Detection and determination of alkylphenol ethoxylates about?
ISO 17034 is an international standard that focuses on methods for the detection and determination of alkylphenol ethoxylates. ISO 17034 describes analyses that are used to detect extractable alkylphenol ethoxylates (nonylphenol ethoxylates and octylphenol ethoxylates) in textile products. ISO 17034 provides a method that uses Liquid Chromatograph (LC) with Mass Spectrometry (MS) system to detect and quantify alkylphenol ethoxylates of defined ethoxylate chain length.
Who is ISO 17034 - Detection and determination of alkylphenol ethoxylates for?
ISO 17034 on methods for Detection and determination of alkylphenol ethoxylates is useful for:
- Textile manufacturers and suppliers
- Chemical laboratories
- Textile testing facilities
Why should you use ISO 17034 - Detection and determination of alkylphenol ethoxylates?
Alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs) are high-value products commonly used in industrial and consumer detergents and cleaners, some plastics, and many industrial applications. Their “down the drain” uses may result in their presence in wastewater streams and receiving water bodies. Human exposure to APEO can occur through diverse sources such as environmental, food, or skin contact.
ISO 17034 covers emulsifiers for polymerization, like detergents and pesticides, and in the processing of wool and metals. Many have been classified as endocrine disruptors due to their weak estrogen-like activities.
ISO 17034 also informs you about the use of organic industrial chemicals in the production of lubricating oil additives, laundry and dish detergents, emulsifiers, and solubilizers. They are also found in personal care products, especially hair products, as an active component of many spermicides (nonoxynol-9), various laboratory detergents (including Triton X-100), and some pesticides formulations.
