What is ISO 1833-26 about?
ISO 1833 discusses the quantitative chemical analysis of textiles. ISO 1833-26 is the 26th part of the multi-series ISO 1833 and discusses mixtures of melamine with certain other fibres.
ISO 1833-26 specifies a method using hot formic acid to determine the mass percentage of melamine fibres after removal of non-fibrous matter, in textiles made of mixtures of melamine fibres with cotton, polypropylene or aramid fibres.
Who is ISO 1833-26 for?
ISO 1833-26 on quantitative chemical analysis of textile is useful for:
- Textile manufacturers
- Quality control personnel
- Testing laboratories
Why should you use ISO 1833-26?
Quantitative analysis is any method used for determining the amount of a chemical in a sample. The amount is always expressed as a number with appropriate units. An acid-base titration is an example of quantitative analysis. Melamine appears as colourless to white monoclinic crystals or prisms or white powder. Sublimes when gently heated.
ISO 1833-26 provides the required guidance on determining the quantitative chemical analysis of a mixture of melamine fibre with cotton including the principles of performing tests, regents, apparatus, test procedure and calculation and expression of results.
Quantitative chemical analysis is beneficial for ensuring the chemical's safety, quality, productivity, control, consistency, among other factors that affect everyday life. ISO 1833-26 helps you to manufacture better quality, safe, and durable products. ISO 1833-26 also helps you to gain consumer confidence.
What is changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 1833-26:2020 supersedes ISO 1833-26:2013. BS EN ISO 1833-26:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 1833-26:2013. These include:
- The title has been changed from “Mixtures of melamine and cotton or aramid fibres….” to “Mixtures of melamine with certain other fibres…”
- The general warning has been moved to ISO 18331
- Polypropylene has been added as the remaining fibre
- Percentage point has been added to avoid confusion
