What is ISO 1833-3 about?
ISO 1833 discusses the quantitative chemical analysis of textiles. ISO 1833-3 is the third part of the multi-series ISO 1833 and discusses mixtures of acetate with certain other fibres.
ISO 1833-3 specifies a method, using acetone, to determine the mass percentage of acetate, after removal of non-fibrous matter, in textiles made of mixtures of acetate with wool, animal hair, silk, protein, cotton (scoured, tiered, or bleached), flax (or linen), hemp, jute, abaca, alfa, coir, broom, ramie, sisal, cupro, viscose, modal, polyamide, polyester, polypropylene, acrylic, elastolefin, elastomultiester, melamine, polypropylene/polyamide bicomponent, polyacrylate and glass fibres.
Note: ISO 1833-3 does not apply to mixtures containing modacrylic fibres, certain chlorofibres, nor to mixtures containing acetate fibres that have been deacetylated on the surface.
Who is ISO 1833-3 for?
ISO 1833-3 on quantitative chemical analysis of textile is useful for:
- Textile manufacturers
- Quality control personnel
- Testing laboratories
Why should you use ISO 1833-3?
Quantitative analysis is any method used for determining the amount of a chemical in a sample. The amount is always expressed as a number with appropriate units. An acid-base titration is an example of quantitative analysis. Cellulose acetate is an insoluble cellulose derivative regarded as a non-toxic, non-irritant, and biodegradable material. ISO 18333 provides the required guidance on determining quantitative chemical analysis from textile through mixtures of acetate with certain other fibres including the principles for the test, reagents, apparatus, and test procedures.
Quantitative chemical analysis is beneficial for ensuring the chemical's safety, quality, productivity, control, consistency, among other factors that affect everyday life. ISO 1833-3 helps you to manufacture better quality, safe, and durable products. ISO 1833-3 also helps you to gain consumer confidence.
What is changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 1833-3:2020 supersedes ISO 1833-3: 2019. BS EN ISO 1833-3:2020 includes some technical changes concerning ISO 1833-3: 2019. These include:
- In scope some remaining fibres (sisal and polypropylene) have been added and “regenerated” has been deleted before “protein.”
