What is ISO 18473‑1-Functional pigments and extenders about?
ISO 18473 discusses functional pigments and extenders for special applications. ISO 18473‑1 is the first part of the ISO 18473 multi-series and discusses nanoscale calcium carbonate for sealant application.
The nano calcium carbonate refers to an ultra-fine precipitated calcium carbonate with an average particle diameter of less than 100 nanometers which can be sued as additives in various products. The nano calcium carbonate is widely applied in plastic, paints and rubber industries because of its unique properties. ISO 18473‑1 specifies requirements and corresponding methods of test for surface-treated nanoscale calcium carbonate in powder form for sealant application.
Who is ISO 18473‑1-Functional pigments and extenders for?
ISO 18473‑1 on functional pigments and extenders for special applications is useful for:
- Paint manufacturers
- Rubber products manufacturers
- Plastic products manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 18473‑1-Functional pigments and extenders?
Sealants are widely used to prevent the penetration of air, gas, or liquid in many industries including construction, automobile, and electronics. Extenders are an essential part of sealant formulation to reduce cost and improve their rheological and mechanical properties.
Nanoscale calcium carbonate (NCC) provides various sealants with improved performance and additional functionalities including thixotropy, flame resistance, and improved durability and recyclability, and has become a major component in sealant formulation.
Nanoscale calcium carbonate in the powdered form is readily manufactured nowadays, mostly through precipitation routes to control the size and morphology. Surface treatment is crucial for utilizing nanoscale calcium carbonate in sealants. ISO 18473‑1 provides you with the properties, measurements, and characteristics of nanoscale calcium carbonate and intents to aid its acceptance and application in sealants. ISO 18473‑1 helps you with the manufacturing of high-quality sealants.
