What is ISO 21304-2 about?
ISO 21304 is a series on plastics. Plastics are a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic materials that use polymers the main ingredient. Their plasticity makes it possible for plastics to be moulded, extruded or pressed into solid objects of various shapes. ISO 21304-2 specifies the methods of preparation of test specimens and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of PE-UHMW moulding and extrusion materials. ISO 21304-2 gives the requirements for handling test material and for conditioning both the test material before moulding and the specimens before testing.
ISO 21304-2 gives the procedures and conditions for the preparation of test specimens and procedures for measuring the properties of the materials from which these specimens are made. Properties and test methods that are suitable and necessary to characterize PE-UHMW moulding, and extrusion materials are listed.
Who is ISO 21304-2 for?
ISO 21304-2 on plastic is useful for:
- Plastic manufacturer
- Plastic testing institution
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 21304-2?
Plastics typically are made through human industrial systems. Most modern plastics are derived from fossil fuel-based chemicals like natural gas or petroleum: however, recent industrial methods use variants made from renewable materials, such as corn or cotton derivatives. ISO 21304-2 discusses Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene as a unique thermoplastic polymer with excellent performance. It has ultra-high molecular weight and extreme rheological behavior, which make it a worldwide challenge to process Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene continuously with little or without processing aids. ISO 21304-2 gives the procedures and conditions for the preparation of test specimens and procedures for measuring the properties of the materials.
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is a unique thermoplastic polymer possessing outstanding physical and mechanical performances such as good wear and corrosion resistance, low coefficient of friction, high impact strength at cryogenic temperatures, good environmental stress-cracking resistance, non-toxic and acceptable biocompatibility,  Because of these excellent properties, Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene has been widely used in many applications including mining, transportation, military industries, biomedical engineering, sports and livelihood projects. To measure these properties test procedures must be followed for best results and quality. It will increase the performance and will lead to work for more time by an increase in the work-life and quality of the plastic it will decrease the cost of production and repairs of the plastics it will benefit the company for not changing it for multiple times. Using ISO 21304-2 you can specify the methods of preparation of test specimens and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of PE-UHMW moulding and extrusion materials
